Your task

Monday, November 9 · The courtyard, 3 p.m.
Your task
A week after you moved in, Mr. Petrović's daughter Ana is home for a visit, and he introduces you in the courtyard. Your goal: understand what she tells you, read the message she sends Jelena, choose the right words for a few situations, and then introduce yourself to Ana in writing, with Vi.
The test
14 questions: 6 on the courtyard conversation, 4 on Ana's message, 4 situations. Then a short message for your instructor.
Before you start
Read the courtyard conversation first, then Ana's message. Take your time: there's no clock.
How the test works
Read the courtyard conversation and Ana's message to Jelena, then answer the 14 questions. This time there are no English translations. Get 12 right (80%) to pass. If you don't pass, look at what you missed, read the texts again and try again. Then write a short message to Ana. It goes to your instructor, and it's part of finishing the module.
Read: in the courtyard
Mr. Petrović introduces you to his daughter. Read the conversation. Your own answers aren't in the text, and this time there's no English translation. Questions 1 to 6 in the test are about it.
- Gospodin Petrović:Dobar dan! Da Vas upoznam: ovo je moja ćerka Ana.
- Ana:Dobar dan! Baš mi je drago. Znači, Vi ste u mom starom stanu!
- Ana:Ja sad živim u Beču, već deset godina. Radim u hotelu, na recepciji.
- Ana:Tata kaže da učite srpski. Bravo! A odakle ste?
- Ana:Lepo! Evo, zapišite moj srpski broj. Nula, šest, dva. Tri, tri, pet. Jedan, nula, osam, devet.
- Gospodin Petrović:Ana, ajde, mama te čeka sa ručkom. Prijatno!
Read: Ana's message
That evening, Jelena shows you a message from Ana on her phone. Read it. Questions 7 to 10 in the test are about it.
Jelena, poruka od Ane:
Ćao, Jelena! Ana ovde. U Beogradu sam još pet dana. Hoćeš na kafu sutra ujutru? Slobodna sam posle devet, a broj mi je isti. U stanu sedam sada živi neko baš fin, i već govori srpski! Pozdravi Luku i Mrvicu.
Ana
New words: sutra = tomorrow, ujutru = in the morning, posle = after, slobodna = free.

You finished Module 1
What you can do now
In one week in Belgrade, you've learned to read any Serbian word, greet people at any time of day and choose between ti and Vi, say who you are and where you're from, save a conversation when you're lost, and give and catch phone numbers and ages. That's a real first week. Next module: the café and the kafana.
